Help! What should we do with everything?

The move is getting closer

After so many years in Thailand, we have gathered a lot of things – but at the same time, we have nothing in Sweden. So, what should we do?

Ship or buy new?

Should we buy new (or second-hand) in Sweden, or rent a container and ship everything home?

I asked AI, and it estimated that the transport would cost around $2200 (~22000 SEK) from Bangkok to Gothenburg. But from experience, we know that it usually ends up costing more, especially with transportation within each country.
But is it worth it?

If we only look at the kitchen and bedroom, the costs in Sweden would be approximately:

  • New bed: 10,000 SEK
  • Dining table and chairs: 7,000 SEK
  • Kitchen equipment (that we already have and want to keep): 7,000 SEK or more

Just these expenses add up to 24,000 SEK, and we haven’t even counted items like TVs, computers, other furniture, clothes, and tools. When everything is added up, it becomes quite a sum.

So, is it worth shipping everything home? Probably, yes. But we need to check in to the rules a little bit closer, so we don’t end up need to pay import tax and VAT on all things..

What about the house?

That’s a really good question!

If we leave it empty, it will slowly deteriorate. We either need to find a tenant or someone who wants to buy it. The house is in good condition, but finding someone willing to pay what we want might not be that easy.

78 days left!

Many questions remain – and so far, few answers. But one thing is certain: on April 30th, the journey begins, and everything must be sorted out by then.

Exciting times ahead!
