iCon Group Fraud and Its Impact
The iCon Group has been at the center of a major fraud scandal affecting over 6,900 individuals in Thailand. In the period Oct 10-21, a total of 6,979 people filed charges with the Central Investigation Bureau’s (CIB) complaints centre and at police stations across the country.
The company is accused of using pyramid schemes, luring customers with promises of quick profits through celebrities and cheap online courses for supplements and beauty products. The financial damage exceeds 200 million baht.
The iCon Group scandal has implicated not only celebrities and officials but also Phra Medhivajirodom, a respected Buddhist monk.
A video of him addressing iCon staff, where he encouraged hard work and cited the CEO as a role model, surfaced online. The monk reportedly received one million baht for the event.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has conducted raids and arrested 18 company executives. This scandal highlights the ease with which fraudulent companies exploit people’s desire for quick financial success.
